One role of art is to highlight particular facets of the world around us; for us to contemplate, then use as a springboard to reconsider certain aspects of ourselves, others, our world, and the relationship between them. The artist’s role then, is to notice things that many of us might miss; essentially be an observer.
If we are not fearful, and seek, we can still make uncomfortable oberservations, and in turn arrive at deeper truths, and thus follow the traditional concerns of art. – Peter Aspden
The possibility exists to fulfil this role in at least a couple of ways, not just by creating art through the act of producing a piece per se, but also through recording the world around us, but with the same critical eye as the artist.
